The Lassiter gymnastics team is off to a great season! The team finished 4th on Feb. 2nd at the South Forsyth High School Meet held at BIO Gymnastics in Cumming. Junior Kira Montefusco came in 5th place All Around with a score of 33.8.
The team started out on beam, a particularly tough place to begin competition. Junior Autumn Mille led off with a solid performance to get the meet started. Her routine included a perfect middle split. Sarah Bearden went up next and delivered a routine with a press-handstand mount and two back-walkovers. Senior Bella Berrios followed with flawless turns, jumps and a twisting dismount. Kathleen Iacobelli delivered a routine with a back tuck and a gainer dismount. Kira Montefusco wrapped up with a routine packed with extremely high jumps and a twisting dismount.
Autumn led off on floor and once again got the team off to a strong start with her strong leaps and turns. Junior Sarah Bearden brought strong tumbling to the floor with a roundoff back handspring back tuck. Bella delivered a routine with Spanish flair and grace with a front tuck, step-out, roundoff tuck. Kira delivered a perfect full to land a strong score. Junior Kathleen Iacobelli hit a spunky routine with a tumbling pass that included with a full twist to give the team a score of 9.1.
Freshman Rebecca DeMouey was the bar specialist and she led the team to a very strong routine with a clear hip. Bella followed her with a second solid routine. Kathleen hit her giant and landed a fly-away dismount. Kira wrapped up their work on bars with a handstand pirouette.
Lassiter features two vault specialists, Junior Neena Madhure and Junior Joely Goss. They both did half-ons to put the team in a great position. Kathleen performed a half-on, full-off. Bella hit a strong front handspring and Kira delivered a tsuk to score a 9.0.
This meet also included the debut of Madi Barnett as team manager. We are excited to have a manager for the season and welcome Madi to the LHS Gymnastics family.
Lassiter now has a break until the end of March when they host their home meet that will include Senior recognition night.
